Macroamylasemia: rapid detection method.
نویسندگان
چکیده
A reliable method is presented for rapidly screening human sera to detect macroamylasemia. A mixture of the serum to be tested, Blue Dextran, and cytochrome c is filtered through a small column of cross-linked dextran gel (Sephadex G-100). Ainylase in the effluent fractions is detected by incubation with amylose and subsequent addition of iodine. Macroamylase, if present, is found in the blue-colored fractions, while amylase of normal molecular weight appears in the fractions colored by cytochrome c.

Anomalous response of macroamylase to assay temperature.
Macroamylasemia results from the complexing of serum a-amylase (EC 3.2.1.1;a-1,4-glucan 4-glucanohydrolase) to a high-molecular-weight protein or proteins (macroamylase) and is characterized by hyperamylasemia and low urinary amylase clearance, associated with normal renal function. Recently a simplified detection method has been described for macroamylasemia, in which a small column of Sephade...

The first case of the simultaneous presence of macroamylasemia and macrolipasemia in a patient with gluten enteropathy (celiac disease) is described. Both macroenzymes were formed by association of polyclonal IgA with amylase and lipase. Both macroenzymes had molecular masses > 300 kDa.

CONTEXT Article analyzes current data on macroamylasemia and splenosis, their etiology and diagnostics in particular. CASE REPORT Authors presented their own clinical observation of a young woman who was diagnosed to have macroamylasemia on the background of splenosis due to the splenectomy after blunt abdominal injury. CONCLUSION This is the first time such a combination of macroamylasemia...
متن کاملTransient Macroamylasemia in a Severely Multiple-Handicapped Child Following the Development of Acute Bronchitis
Macroamylasemia is a condition of elevated serum amylase levels in which normal serum amylase form a complex with high molecular weight proteins such as immunoglobulins. This is a case report on a patient with macroamylasemia following acute asthmatic bronchitis. A 5-year-old male with cerebral palsy and developmental retardation was admitted to our hospital because of high fever and severe cou...
متن کاملScreening for macroamylase in a community hospital.
We evaluated the polyethylene glycol precipitation test (Gastroenterology 83: 378-382, 1982), looking for macroamylase in the serum of 66 patients whose values for serum amylase were above normal. Three patients (4.5%) were identified by this method as having macroamylase , and this was confirmed by gel-filtration chromatography and electrophoresis. We find this to be the test of choice as a sc...
